Our Community and its Environment

 

February 25th, 2014     The theme for StreetFest 2014 will focus on community and the environment. Concession Street is bordered with some of the most beautiful green space with the proximity to the escarpment and parks. This will be showcased at StreetFest along with efforts and initiatives to green the festival itself and make it more environmentally friendly.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Salvation for Salvage at StreetFest 2014

 

March 10th, 2014     Calling all designers & entrepreneurs. We are looking for The Edge in sustainable design. Will you be Hamilton’s next Enviropreneur?

 

As Concession Street prepares to undergo a full street reconstruction and totally new streetscape in 2015 blended without overlooking the charm of its history, this year’s StreetFest will showcase re-use, one of the 3 R’s as a part of its environmental and green theme. Concession Street is calling out to all local environmental enthusiasts and entrepreneurs to submit designs, prototypes and finished products in search of the best commercially viable products exemplifying creative re-use of an item or materials and designed in Hamilton.

 

EnviroProduct categories include Apparel & Accessories; Artwork; Crafts, Games & Toys; Furniture & Accessories; and Jewellery, as well as an Open or Other category. There will also be categories for Children, Youth, Adults and Seniors. Consideration will be given to ‘one of a kind’ as well as replicable products. Judging will be conducted by local professionals with backgrounds and expertise in and representing the business, environmental, financial, creative, marketing and retail sectors.

 

The products will all be showcased at this year’s StreetFest on Saturday, June 7th, where the public can view them and even order or take one home, while the designs will be judged for commercial viability, creativity, unique design and environment worthiness to find Hamilton’s newest Environmental Entrepreneurs, who will be awarded prizes including a cash award and business services as well as a retail opportunity to actually sell the products.

 

The 2014 competition awards have been named The Edge, reflecting Concession Street`s proximity to the green space of the escarpment. The Edge Enviropreneur competition is presented by the Concession Street BIA and the Hamilton Public Library Concession Branch.
